New Year, New Goals | Introducing the Print Shop

Introducing our print shop with seasonal photographs and stationary.

As 2022 came to an end, the feeling of change was beginning to stir in me. Knowing my photography teaching days were coming to a close after a few wonderful years, I was spending more and more time reflecting on what change would take place in the new year. As I sat down with a student (now friend), we explored options together and while the encouragement to continue on through a different avenue came up, I had to admit that my heart wasn’t in it. That time of teaching came at the very beginning of Covid and changed so much for each of us. We all were given this gift of being together online and creating safely in our own space, but still able to come together to share and talk each week. It was a unique experience that I’ll never be able to replicate (not that I would truly want to given the circumstances). As one door closes, another is opening.

As I was thinking about all of this, a conversation with my daughter came up. She has explored various ideas for years about wanting to earn money through bake sales, farmer’s markets, dog grooming, etc. Many times the ideas were bigger than her and her best friend could truly tackle, but as I began thinking about the past few years of work I’ve compiled, I wondered what the possibility of selling my photographs might be. So I sat down her and talked about it. What did she think? Did she like the idea? Was she interested in sharing the experience with me? YES, was her enthusiastic response. She would collaborate with me on design and be in charge of packaging. While school and sports take up her time, her involvement will ebb and flow, but that’s the nature of our days. I still share everything with her and she gets to earn her own commission. At her young and tender age, I want her to be excited, not stressed or burdened by her commitments.

On February 1st, I announced the Grand Opening of the online shop and was met with the kindest words and encouragement I could have hoped for. My first orders came in and by that weekend, I was in tears at the amount of support I was still receiving. It’s been a beautiful experience only one week in and I’m excited and full of anticipation of what’s to come. This new endeavor is a long, slow game, but one that feels right for me at the moment. As the family photography season slowly begins as spring begins to waken, it all feels just as it should.

Thank you all for sharing, commenting, and liking the posts I’ve shared on social media, but even more-so, thank you for your purchases and messages about the pieces you love, where you’re hanging them, and how they make you feel. This has been a true joy of life to share my art with you. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

You can sign up for the mailing list to receive occasional shop updates, specials, inspiration, and learn of new seasonal releases HERE.
